The day after posting my previous blog it was Chris in my 6 month anniversary and on the weekend he organized something to celebrate. I didn't get to know what we were doing or where we were going. The only thing he told me was that it was in the city, that I had to dress formal and be ready by a certain time. I was hoping it had something to with the Brisbane river and so it did. He had booked us on a dinner cruise on the Kookaburra Queen. The food was lovely and so were the views of the city from the river, a perfect way to celebrate this milestone. |
Work just went on the last few months as per normal. Busy with the kids in the mornings and the afternoons and throw in some handball training sessions and you got an action packed schedule. The last two weeks have been the school holidays and we did a lot of fun stuff, but also quite a lot of relaxing. The kids were quite depleted after a term full of school and after school activities, so we hung around the house, had people over and just took it slow. They are back at school now and the house seems very very quiet without the kids in it (even though the dogs know how to fill that silence quite well sometimes).
On the 16th of March, Steffi came to Brisbane to visit her boyfriend in Noosa and Chris and I decided to drive her up there and spend the weekend with them. We went on a hike through the Noosa national park, we walked around the surf festival in Noosa (which was not that interesting and we were passed it before we even knew it had started), went paddle boarding (everyone managed to stay on the board except for Chris) and just talked and talked. We left Noosa early on Sunday to beat the traffic, which was kind of sad. I hadn't seen Steffi in such a long time and it was all so comfortable and familiar again from the moment we reunited. It was sad to have to say goodbye again so soon.

For all of you who have been living under a rock, Ed Sheeran is on a big world tour at the moment and on the 20th of March he paid a visit to Brissy! I was very lucky to get Chris's mum's ticket for the concert and it was incredible. He sang all the songs I expected and he really knows how to get the crowd going.
Easter weekend was a 4 day weekend, the Friday of which we spent in Australia Zoo. I bought the tickets a few months ago, but we hadn't been able to find a time to go and now was our chance. We saw zebras, giraffes, all sorts of birds, kangaroos, koalas, jaguars, tigers, you name it and to top it all off, we saw the Irwin family feed some crocs. The only downside of this zoo for me was the fact that they didn't have sloths, but it didn't take anything away from the experience. My highlight of this trip was definitely the moment where I was feeding a baby Kangaroo which was still in its mother's pouch (see pictures).
Saturday morning we got up bright and early to watch the sunrise from Mount Gravatt, which wasn't as amazing as expected, but still very beautiful. Followed by a play called "I love you, you're perfect, now change", which exceeded expectations and was incredibly funny, seeing couples in all the different stages of relationships.
Easter Monday I met up with Hui and we went to Wet'n'Wild, a waterpark down the coast. Most rides were quite tame, but it was a good way to catch up.

To conclude this blog, the last thing I want to tell you about is the Commonwealth Games. At first we only bought tickets to see the field hockey, because all the other sports were sold out quite fast. However, we managed to get our hands on tickets to see the beach volleyball as well. In the morning Chris, Dani and I set out for the Coast. After a short visit to the Carrara Markets and lunch at Pacific Fair, we headed down to Coolangatta, where we saw Trinidad & Tobago beat Fiji in the men’s preliminary round, New Zealand beat Singapore and Vanuatu beat Rwanda in the women’s preliminary rounds. It was very hot in the sun at 3 pm, but with a sporadic drop of rain, it started to cool down a bit towards the end.
After the beach volleyball we went to see Wales v India and Australia v Scotland, all thinking that the latter game would be the better one. We got the Australian flags painted on our faces and mine almost made it to the start of the game, but unfortunately I forgot they were on my face and I started wiping them all over my cheeks. Australia won easily against Scotland, with most of the action happening on the side of the court we weren’t on. The Wales v India game on the other hand was very close from start to finish. India only managed to score the winning goal in the last minute of the game.

Another month and a half filled with exciting adventures, let’s see what my last few months in Australia will bring me!
Cheers!
